Objectives of this module:

Introduction:
Developing one's vocabulary is the first and foremost of any language learner. Language fluency depends on the power of vocabulary. In order to communicate better one must have learnt 3000 to 5000 minimum words .
Learning vocabulary means
- Orthography – Written form.
- Phonology – Spoken form.
- Reference – Meaning.
- Semantics – Concept and reference.
- Register – Appropriate usage.
- Collocation – Lexical neighbours.

Euphemism : a word or phrase used to avoid saying an unpleasant or offensive word
Example :Housewife - Homemaker . Blind - visually impaired
Eponymous: An eponym is a person, place, or thing after whom or which someone or something is, or is believed to be, named.
Example: America - The word America is named after Italian Map maker, Amerigo Vespucci
Diesel - This fuel used in trucks and other equipment is named after Rudolph Diesel
Compound words: it is the combination of two words.
Example: riverbed, starlight, sunrise, easy going..
Idioms : A group of words in a fixed order that have a particular meaning that is different from the meanings of each word on its own. It is the special usage of language.
Example : cats and dogs - heavy rain
On the ball - doing good job.
Affix : a letter or group of letters that are added to the beginning or end of a word and that change its meaning
