Let us learn the basics of how to introduce ourselves, someone else and make contact with someone in English.

The following examples show how to introduce yourself

1.Can I introduce myself ?   

  My name is Prashanth.

2.May I introduce myself ?   

  I am Madhu.

3.Let me introduce myself.   

  My name’s Victor

4.I’d like to introduce myself.

   I’m Vijayanand

1.2 Introducing others



The following examples show how to introduce someone else.
  • May I introduce  Mr.Arun ? 
  • I introduce a good friend of mine. This is Ajith. Have you met Ajith?
  • Can I introduce Mrs. Devi? Let me introduce a good friend of mine? This is Harsha. Have you met Harsha?
  • I’d like you to meet Mr.Raj, my teacher.
  • I want you to meet Shilpa.



The following examples show how to make contact with someone you don't know earlier.
  • Excuse me, are you Mr.Anwar?  
  • Hello, you must be Mr.Sharath.
  • You are  Dhilip, aren’t you?

Tips:



When some one says How do you do, respond to them saying ‘How do you do’.( Don’t say I ‘m fine) 
When some one says ‘Nice to meet you’ respond to them saying ‘Nice to meet you too’.

1.3 Adjectives for description
1. Have you seen your face in the mirror?
2. Which feature of your image do you think is the best on you, your skin, hair, eyes, nose, mouth, complexion or shape of face?
3. Why do you think it is the best?
4. What colour, would you say, suits you best? Why?
